how things are

i was wondering why i rather rarely post images that are recognisably berlin. i think it is because i am easily bored with clichées of this city. but of course, i would happily snap the eiffel tower when in paris. although, when in london, i never photographed red buses or the tower bridge either. so maybe no eiffel tower? anyway, i took these a while ago, the first two in 2011, the bottom two in 2009 and somehow, they are berlin to me.

on a different note: for a while now, i have felt that the subjects that interest me are fundamentally changing, that my general aesthetic is somehow taking different turns. it is a bit unsettling, but i'll just have to wait what evolves. it's possibly going to be less images hereabouts, for a while. i'm not sure. wish i could tell you.

but i'm hoping that you are hanging in there.

would you tell me what you are up to and what you're mulling over these days, as the seasons change again?

kristina, these are beautiful. and i totally know what you mean re changing tastes. we are evolving beasts, and it's interesting to look back at the twists and turns behind us. blogs are good for reflecting/reminding on this...

Oh I totally agree with "Enia is (Almost) Here" ... we are always changing and evolving, I think I would kind of worry if I didn't ....
Keep going on the path you are going Kristina, I love it !!!

Really wonderful shots. Lately, I've been reading the new yorker magazine and taking many walks in the evening after dinner.

I love cliche... Why trying to escape from them>>>
These last days, I was in the cliche but not always... And... how did you handle with your work ?

I've really been struggling to photograph anything at all these days. I don't seem to have any visual aesthetic at all, but have become completely emotionally and mentally internalised.

ALWAYS happy to think of our jolly good weekend in Berlin.

barcelona is very much a city of cliches, too. and i'm tired of them. that's why i love my new neighbourhood. am rande von alledem. and that's what inspires me these days. rough and fragmented urban tissue, things to be done, voids to be filled (or not),space and air to breathe, the horizon.

I just left Berlin, and you know your town is magical... My son (14 years) lives in Berlin for a few months, he goes to gymnasium. For christmas he'll be back in France.
I didn't go to Berlin since 1987. Last week, it was the first time I went to west Berlin...

Evolving…ALWAYS a good thing. To question what you are doing and changing your aesthetic. But at the same time don't dismiss a cliché just for being a cliché. And that comes from the woman who shot an entire roll at Cité Radieuse! They may be clichés but your eye, your interpretation will unique and can help you to refine your vision ultimately. Besides I find I often revisit old themes and find new ways to express them, either visually or by changing the medium completely. Often it's not the ideas that become stale, just the materials we use.
