agfa synchro box

ohne titel
ohne titel

the other day, it was raining and i was walking in the drizzle, trying to find a café for a quick stop. i had my agfa synchro box with me, a very basic box camera from the late forties/early fifties, with the first roll of film in it. my mother had found the little box at a fleamarket, got it for me and posted it to berlin. for me the first time i used a 120 rollfilm.

when i picked up the processed roll, there were seven out of eight frames with recognisable subject matter on them (score!). i've got no idea what happened to that one frame in the middle, which was blank. probably skipped it when winding the film?

anyhow, what i can tell from looking at that first roll, is that i need a tripod, or intentionally play with the motion blur. also, i think i may prefer b/w with this kind of basic analogue camera. and i'd like to take less urban scenes with it. perhaps landscapes.

i just thought i'd document the ho-hum first shots and my ideas, after all, this is a diary of sorts, and you can't always get the desired result with the first try, right?

happy weekend!

oh! i think the effect is rather beautiful really, dreamlike. it might make gorgeous portraits, ones that look like they came from another time. i am excited to follow your adventures with it :)

I agree with Genevieve; the slight blur just adds to the dreamy effect. Oh, and those vivid colours are gorgeous!

The red bike in the drizzle, seatless and handlebarless, it is so sad and beautiful.

i actually really like the first one and i think blogs are so much more interesting when they document the process rather than painting a perfect picture all the time. thanks for posting this.

thanks, all, you are too good.

sylee: it's the stage entrance to the volksbuehne theatre, tucked away in a little side street.

pascale: i'm still busy like mad, but feeling more positive about things, and my neck is pain free (such a relief!).

elizabeth: thank you, i feel the same. hope your arm is better!

Dreamy pictures, they make a rainy day look like a wonderful day, the light is fab and the hues amazing, the blur just add that poetic touch!
Bravo.

you should feel very happy with these! I know it's easy to say….I mean, other people can tell you over and over they love what you have done, but if you yourself are not feeling it…….
I think you may have a point about b&w too. I tried b&w film in my Kodak Cresta which is probably quite similar, and the results were really interesting.
