fleeting

// //

fleeting moments, when the light is just so.

dividing my time between work and adventures with friends. had a great morning with kay who was in berlin, enjoying marion's company, who is visiting, also more coming up about adventures with sylee the other day.

good times!

days and nights

summer days and nights are so deliciously long, don't you agree? they make me want to savour every single moment, to squeeze the last little drop of time out of these lush, hot and happy summer weeks.

the beauty of it is, that there seems to be enough time to pour a glass of wine, flick through nigel slater's latest book tender, look out of the window or sit outside and watch the world go by.

p.s.: thanks so much jo, for that cookbook, it's a treasure, i'm enjoying it so much!

p.p.s.: is everybody apart from myself on holiday? just wondering.

pale

have you ever been to a photographer's lab, developed film and made prints? the moment when you carefully slide your print-to-be into the developer and the image starts to appear like a ghost, by and by, until you finally can make it out clearly - that's pure magic. a moment that holds everybody transfixed when they experience it. it's a mix of anticipation, impatience, excitement and wonder. films like blow-up capture this so well, that may be one of the reasons i like it so much.

and you see, sometimes life feels a bit like that too. you feel things are about to change, there's something up in the air, but you can't quite make out what it is. you're standing and you're looking, and the image is taking shape, but it's so pale you can't read it. you'll have to wait a bit longer.

when i took these tulip shots, i was worried the light might be too dim, so i chose the biggest possible aperture. now they seem like a pale vision, almost unreal. one of those happy accidents.

lots of light

a weekend in the countryside is hard to beat, even for a city flower like me. i went a bit wild with the aperture, it seems, the film caught a lot of light. but in a way that's quite apt. it was such a sunny day when i took these, we even got a little sunburnt, sitting in the garden all day.

oh, and does anyone know what that green plant is? i've got no idea, but i liked it. it seemed a bit tropical in the middle of the cotswolds.

p.s.: spot edward, the cat. she's (yes, it's a girl) in two of the shots.
p.p.s.: yay for floh! she's right, the mysterious plant is "wolfsmilch", english spurge (or euphorbia). there are tons of different species - i think this one is euphorbia venata.

home

home. these days it's really cold outside and it may be just as well that i'm chained to my desk at the moment. my apartment is not the lightest. but even here the light is changing in spring and i love those moments when you go and fetch something and suddenly have to stop and get the camera because the sun is flooding in, or simply because you notice something you've got so used to that you stopped seeing it.

that shirt is very special to me - k gave it to me for my birthday.

time flies

such a cliché, i know. i wonder though, how come we sometimes feel this so acutely, and then sometimes time really seems long? obviously, it does seem long when we're waiting. but also, when we are really intensely enjoying something. then there are weeks like the past, where it's all a bit of a blur and time flies so madly i hardly even register it, since there's so much to do.

it's all psychology, right? or is it neurology? what do you think?

hope you had a wonderful weekend. i had a bit of everything. loads of work, a day full of running hundreds of little but urgent errands i had been putting off for too long. and an afternoon with friends who have just moved to berlin and now live a 10 minute walk from me. how cool is that? oh, and have a mentioned they have an amazing view and a roof terrace?

p.s.: not long to go now - there are little buds everywhere. and it's been raining a lot.

changing light

no buds and green and flowers yet outside, but the light is changing. i thought i'd show you.

juggling several projects, i'll have to skip corner view this week, the days just don't seem to have enough hours at the moment. see you soon.

light

i'm so waiting for the days to get longer. and cherish the light while it's there.

what do you do to cheer yourself up when the dark season seems too long?
