it's a bronica EC, friends. i'm over the moon.

after years of rumination, i finally made the leap and went for a 6x6 medium format camera. a hasselblad was out of reach budget-wise, so i settled for its japanese counterpart, a vintage bronica EC from 1972. i'm so very happy about this new addition to my camera collection.

when i received the parcel, i couldn't wait to go out the very same afternoon to shoot a test roll and take it to the lab. i woke in the early hours, having dreamt of being told there was nothing on the roll - and being absolutely devastated. was of course silly excited when it turned out there were indeed pictures on the film. some minor trouble is the white residue you can see on these scans, so the bronica is being serviced. a first check confirmed lens and body are fine, it's probably to do with a crumbling foam sealer in the film back, which will be replaced. camera buffs out there - do you have any other guesses?

happy weekend, everyone!

p.s.: while i'm picking your brains: any of you using an epson v500 or epson v600 scanner? would you recommend it?

Yes, I use a V500 Kristina. For the price I would recommend it highly, I only paid 98 euros 2 years ago for mine. But (there always has to be a but, right?) it took me lots and lots of scanning to get it how I wanted it, and to actually get used to how the scans looked so different to those done by my lab. Like most things it takes perseverance/practice, and I'm still learning. The other problem I had is the top of my film holder broke early on, but but you can by universal replacement holders online. You also end up becoming incredibly paranoid about dust ^_^
It has paid for itself over and over btw.
Very, very envious of your Bronica. I'm squirreling away for a Bronica ETRS, but it's taking me forever!

hi, i'm a silent reader of your blog for a very long time. you have such dreamy pictures and you make everything look so perfect. you were one of the few who inspired me to go all analogue for my photos. i definitely have a long way to go to get my pictures looking like yours but it's such an enjoyable learning journey with my cameras anyway. you're an inspiration for me.. thank you kristina!

It looks so coool! I'm saving for a new camera for next year and I'm kind of wondering if change to 6x6. The tones and the phocus are amazing.

thanks nit, i so know what you mean.

are you debating whether to go for 6x6 or 6x7? i was a bit torn as well, but then found that the square format was very appealing and might teach me new things, get me out of my comfort zone. you have two very beautiful blogs, btw!

Congrats on the new set up! Sounds dreamy. I had a V600 which was an upgrade from an Epson 4990 and I quite liked it! Great scanner for the price. I recently sprung from that one for a V700 and the difference is astonishing so if you want to make a more long term investment, squirrel away the extra money and buy the v700! I doubt you'll regret it. Plus it comes with Silverfast (although honestly I hvaen't gotten the hang of that software yet) and it can scan 4x5, 4 strips of 35mm at one time, 8x10 negatives and of course, 120.

Hope that helps!

yes, I am sure I want another 35 mm camera, but the square formats are so lovely... and like you say, learning new things and getting out of the comfort zone may be more challenging! I'll keep watching your work and keep on saving before making a decision.

(and thank you for your words about my blog, yours is fantastic!)

I just got a hasselblad a few weeks back, and got the v500 at the same time. Am pretty happy with it so far, no complaints!
